Ramadhan day 8: is there such thing as too much of a good thing?

You know the feeling you get when you wanted to eat a red velvet cake, but somehow you couldn’t find one that you really want? And then you forget about it. Days after, there was a knock on the door. And when you open it, there it was, the delivery guy from Convivium (they do delivery, in my imagination), bringing you a big slice of red velvet cake. You didn’t even realize that you want it. But when it’s right in front of you, you get a rush of saliva in your mouth and you couldn’t stop thinking about how the cake would melt in your mouth and how you would like to share the cake with your loved one.

That’s what I feel last night, when after two text messages and four emails, I decided to take up on a new challenge: being a lecturer at my alma mater’s international program. Just like the red velvet cake, I didn’t know that I wanted it. But when I was offered a position as a lecturer for “PR & Media Production” class, I just couldn’t say no and ended up feeling very excited about it.

I immediately thought about what I am going to say in the first meeting, what I want the students to read, how am I going to conduct the class, and how I am going to divide the grading components for the students. HAH! 😀 Saying that I am excited would be a tiny bit of an understatement.

This is indeed a new challenge, and I am curious as to how I am going to do it. Will I do well? Will my students like me? Does the phrase “those who cannot do, teach” apply to me?

At this point, I am rather relaxed. Perhaps that’s because the class doesn’t start until September. At this point, I also doubt my academic skill since it was recently proven that my academic writing skill has deterred compared to some time ago. But then again, I know that I have much more to share than just about writing academic text. I know I can share about the daily life of a PR people. I know I can share the ups & downs and the challenges that a social media strategist face today. And if nothing else, I know for sure I can share my enthusiasm and passion about taking up on challenges that life brings me. 🙂

Wish me luck!

  1. Woahh…semangat ya Nena! Congrats juga! They say as you begin to teach, you realize how much you don’t really know; I know you’ll take that as an opportunity to expand your horizons 🙂 Blessings on the new adventure!
